MT 4:18-22

November 30 is the Feast Day of Saint Andrew, Apostle. The first reading tells us how if we believe in Christ, his teachings, and how he was raised from the dead, we shall be saved. The main idea of this reading is supported in the scriptures: “no one who believes in him will be put to shame.” Although we have not heard Christ directly, our faith comes from what is heard, and what we hear comes from Christ, himself. The Gospel for November 30 tells us the story of Jesus passing by fishermen at the Sea of Galilee. Jesus told the men to follow him, for he will make them “fishers of men.” The men quickly agreed and journeyed with Jesus. Later on down the road, again, Jesus saw two more brothers, and they immediately left their boat to follow Jesus. In this story, the men know little about Jesus, and they leave everything they are doing just to follow him. If we believe in Jesus just as the fishermen did, we shall be rewarded. The story of Jesus at Galilee shows us a live example of how those who follow Jesus will be rewarded, just as those who believe in Jesus will not be put to shame.
