The New York State Federation Cross Country Championship Meet regarded as the, “most competitive Girls state Championship Meet in the US,” proved no differently this year. For the past eight years New York girls’ teams have had four of the top-ten nationally ranked teams in the country each year, including National Champion Fayetteville-Manlius of Syracuse.

This year nationally fifth-ranked North Rockland won the meet, with perennial national contender Saratoga finishing third. To finish in the top twenty of the qualified 27-team field is quite an achievement!

Led by sophomore Maureen Lewin and junior captain Nora Bennett, who ran virtually in tandem the whole rigorous 5-kilometer route, the team of those two, Julia Bryant, Brianna Lausev, Maya Richardson, Anita Mikowski, and Bridget Lapham, the Kellenberg Girls finished seventeenth, again as Long Island’s top private school and one of the top five downstate teams. Lewin ran 20:26 and Bennett ran 20:30 for the hilly 3.1 mile course.
