The KMHS One Heart One Mind Many Cultures Club celebrated Black History Month with presentations on fashion, dances, HBCUs, food, music, and a fun Family Feud event to end the celebration.
These events that took place throughout the month showcased the vast, rich, and diverse culture that Black Americans celebrate. It showed the culture that helped influence American culture and so many people in this country today. It represents the past, present, and future.
Black History Month, recognizing the contributions that Black culture had on American society, is used to remember the important events surrounding Black history such as slavery, racial injustice, and inequality. February also remembers those who fought the injustice against Black Americans. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, John Lewis, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and so many more that fought for Black people in America to be in a better position in the future are celebrated.
Junior Sybel Georges said, “Our beautiful culture was able to be celebrated in Kellenberg this month, and we’re grateful to have led the events this year, and we [the Cultures Club] have no doubt that the next year will be great, and possibly even better than this year.”
Opportunities to talk about student cultures and origins are rare. The KMHS culture club is a great opportunity to show students’ history. Culture represents students and their families, and no matter how many similarities cultures have, every culture has something different and unique about it. This uniqueness is what makes culture so beautiful.
Mrs. Cameron says, “The Culture Club does a fantastic job. Every year there are more events that serve to represent different aspects of the school community. They definitely put a lot of heart into our school.”
The KMHS One Heart One Mind Many Cultures Club was honored to share and invite so many people to talk about their culture and is grateful for the Kellenberg students who celebrated Black culture together this past month.
