Article by Phoenix writer Lauren DeRiggi ’24:

On Friday, May 20th, the Kellenberg Memorial family gathered together to celebrate the May Crowning. The May Crowning is an annual school-wide event in the main parking lot where the statue of the Blessed Mother is adorned with a crown of flowers.

With the assistance of the Floral Park Fire Department, Mrs. Riiska had the honor to crown Mary this year. She said, “I was very honored to have been asked to crown Mary for the May Crowning. It was special because Kellenberg is a Marianist school. I have always had a devotion to Mary, but it has certainly grown stronger as I have experienced the faith life here at Kellenberg. I know that my grandmother, who was very devoted to Mary, would have been so happy if she could have seen it. It was a beautiful day that I was fortunate enough to share with my family, students, and my Kellenberg family.”

Overall, the Kellenberg family continued on a tradition that goes back years to give honor and devotion to Mary.
