Article by Phoenix writer Nicholas Cortese ’23:

Kellenberg offers a Culinary Club upstairs in the Emmanuel Dining Room and Kitchen. The club has been running steadily and successfully for many years. This year, the group was taken over by Mrs. Arias and Mrs. Borruso. The rookie moderators are not only planning on turning their pupils into gourmet gurus but also expanding the club into one that can maximize the young chefs’ abilities.

There are currently twelve members who meet in the kitchen every Thursday ready to cook. They wash their hands, check the recipes they were given, and grab the ingredients that they need to craft the meal. As the school year has started up, the students have prepared dishes such as empanadas and chicken. Once the “cuisiniers” settle in, the courses they put together will be centered around holidays and festivals like the Day of the Dead, St. Patrick’s Day, and the Chinese New Year.

A huge part that will develop the skills of the members and allow the club to grow is running the bunch through culture. Mrs. Arias noted how applying lifestyles and heritage into the Culinary Club will always be necessary, stating, “Now, it’s really important that we try and bring culture into what we make, definitely.”

The Culinary Club is a body of some of the most elite cooks in the entire school. Seeing the development of the past members has always led to satisfaction. But now that the club has a fresh start with two new experienced moderators, you cannot help but be optimistic to watch the current members flourish and new members start flooding in. Any students who are interested in joining should reach out to Mrs. Borruso or Mrs. Arias.
